Cloverfield
I saw Cloverfield (by myself of course) on opening night and it was AWESOME! I won't give away any of the plot but I will say a couple things. If you are the type who wants to know everything about the monster (where it comes from, what it wants, what it's weaknesses are, etc.) this movie offers no answers. In fact, by the end of the movie, you still don't know much more than you did before. What it does have is 80 minutes of heart pounding, edge of your seat tension. The camera technique is very effective at drawing you in and making you feel you are part of the action but those who are prone to motion sickness may experience some discomfort. I have heard reports of people vomiting. If you like monster movies and you are not discouraged by the possibility of puking/getting puked on, you have to see it!

The camera work never bothered me. However I did find myself leaning a bit to try to get the camera to pan over to what I wanted to see. It draws you in very well that way. I was surprised at how much you actually get to see of the monster. I was anticipating fleeting glances. They managed to make a monster movie where you never really care what it is, or where it came from. It all didn't seem to mater in the scope of the movie. Very well done. A rare movie which I would see again in the theatres.

Agreed. In fact, I probably will see it in the theater when my mother-in-las visits.

I'm not a big fan of monster movies so I am going to probably skip this one. I might rent it when it comes out on dvd.

I think this is one of those movies that should be seen on the big screen. It would lose some impact (immersion factor) on a smaller screen. However, if you are worried about motion sickness (totally understandable given your history), the small screen might be safer.

Actually I am not worried about that. I am worried about the monsters. They scare me...j/k
I didn't know about the motion sickness part until I read your post, but I had already decided that I wasn't going to see it.
