Scary

Here is a picture (stolen from LA Times) of a fire currently raging in Foothill Ranch. Our old apartment is (hopfully still is) a couple hundred yard behind that JoAnn Fabric store from the point of view of the photographer.
More importantly, Dan and Emily's house is not too far from there and dangerously close to a fire that is only 30% contained and is not expected to improve today. They are currently evacuating. Hopefully everything will be ok.

I had no idea their home was in danger. The winds have calmed down a lot where I am in Anaheim Hills. Hopefully that is also the case in the South County.

I'm thinking happy thoughts for you, Dan & Emily. The winds are dying down, although today that really hasn't been much relief (gusts 40-60 mph instead of 80+ mph). Hopefully tomorrow the Santa Anas will be pretty much done and the firefighters can start making a comeback. Thursday and Friday are supposed to be cooler, and if the onshore flow returns like I'm hoping it will, the boost in humidity will help them start beating the fires back.
Thank you Aaron for updating us... if time permits keep us posted.

The fire swept through Foothill Ranch into Portola Hills (where we live), Silverado Canyon (where we got married), Modjeska Canyon, and Trabuco Canyon. It pretty much burned up everything in our area, except for the homes. We lost the big wilderness park that was down the street from us and the whole area is pretty much burned to a crisp. At this point the fire is moving into the Cleveland National Forest and should continue to grow strong in that area as well. Aside from the horrible air and ash fall-out I think we are pretty much safe at this point. It was pretty sketchy on Tuesday as it burned up to the homes backyard below us. Thanks to all for the well wishes.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad all is well. I was afraid you'd have to find a house in Vegas sooner than expected.

Glad to hear that everything turned out ok and that you didn't lose your house. Dan, I assume you got my voicemail. I left a similar voicemail for Emily.

Yeah I got your voicemail on Wednesday, thanks. The fire is still burning through the canyon down below our house. At this point I figure everything in our area has burned so it should contine into the forest, however if it turns the corner it will be burning into Rancho Santa Margarita. That's the next area in the fire's path.
