I just read something that made me very angry.
Average Americans are struggling to keep up with persistently high gas prices, now approaching $3 a gallon. Testifying before Congress last November, Exxon CEO Lee Raymond blamed the problem on"global supply and demand" and assured the public that"we're all in this together."Last year, Raymond made due with"a total compensation package" of just $69.7 million or $190,915 a day, including weekends.
Exxon is giving Lee Raymond one of the most generous retirement packages in history, nearly $400 million, including pension, stock options and other perks, such as a $1 million consulting deal, two years of home security, personal security, a car and driver, and use of a corporate jet for professional purposes.

Even though my commute isn't long, the high gas prices hurt me because I only get 18/23 miles per gallon. We are all slaves to the system because there is no real mass transit system here. Metrolink is a half hearted attempt. We need something fast and under ground, but that is a very costly approach & would be tough to approve by tax payers.

I'm always leary about building anything underground in a seismically active area. Los Angeles is far too spread out for any type of mass transit system to work effectively. How many people work in LA but live in OC. How about the people who work in Irvine but live in Pasadena. There is no way to effectively cater to the problems we have with an area this size. You just have to increase freeway capacity, which always gets clogged up in congress with those damn environmentalists.
Oh yeah, try getting 14 miles per gallon with a 26 gallon tank.

I'm filing up more often because my car is smaller. It has only 15 gallons.

hehehe....HOORAY FOR SCIONS!!! I only have a 12 gallon tank and I get 35 mpg!! I only fill up once a week with all the driving I do. And YES, I'm bragging!

I agree with Dan. Mass transit isn't a likely option for L.A. and Orange County. L.A. already has a subway and most people in L.A. don't even know it's there.
