Welcome to the Black Parade
I doubt anybody who reads this blog will care but just in case...
After spending the last couple months trying to convince myself I wouldn't like it, I finally broke down and purchased My Chemical Romance's Black Parade CD. The critical acclaim and repeatedly getting the song Famous Last Words stuck in my head was just too much for me to bear. Well, I'm glad I did.
Black Parade is phenomenal album. It's a very dark, thought provoking concept album about dying man as he looks back on his too short life. Black Parade shows creativity reminiscent of Queen and shades of Green Day's American Idiot (same producer I think). All the tracks are good and I listen to the entire thing over and over again. If that's not enough for you, how about Liza Minnelli's vocal cameo on Momma?

Does Liza Minnelli's cameo rival Dio's cameo as Dr. X? Didn't think so. No matter how much they try to drive the song Famous Last Words into my head, I will not break down and buy this album. I'm not debating if it's good or bad, since I haven't heard any other songs, but I just can't see myself ever buying this album.

Um... no. There really is no comparison between Dio and Liza... in any way. I really didn't see myself buying it either but I have no regrets.

And now it's time for my famous line..."Never heard of it!" I have heard of My Chemical Romance, of course, but not Famous Last Words.
How does this compare to Fountains of Wayne, one of your other bold purchases? haha
But seriously, it's cool that you liked a song, heard a lot of good things about the album it's on, and took a chance on it. I have discovered countless bands doing that.

I never bought Fountains of Wayne. That was all Dan. And lets not forget The Crash Test Dummies. Dan has indeed made some bold purchases in the past.
I'm generally pretty selective when buying music and I have been very fortunate over the past couple years when trying something new. Every time I take a risk, I end up very pleased with my purchase. In fact, I have had better luck with new (to me) artists than with old favorites lately.

Go to mychemicalromance.com to hear Famous Last Words. It automatically plays when you are on the main page.

Or just listen to KROQ, they play it about every 7 minutes.
For some reason that Fountains of Wayne purchase really sticks with me. I bought it when we all went to the Ontario Mall with James. Why we went out there I don't remember, but it probably wasn't just so I could buy the CD. Crash Test Dummies on the other hand, well, I don't remember that purchase. However I think my boldest purchase to date has been the Phunk Junkeez, but I prefer not to dwell on the past.

They had that song! We all have purchases we aren't proud of so it's probably best to not travel down that road. Somebody might get hurt.

The song on their website is pretty good, although not my thing. You are right, Dan was the one who bought Fountains of Wayne. Dan, I was with you and James at the Ontario Mills Mall for that purchase. We listened to the biker song in your Pathfinder.
