It was only a matter of time
I was vegetating on the couch last night when my eyes drifted to the ceiling. I saw a speck and, as my eyes focused on it, I thought "Hmm, a spider." and quickly turned away my attention. I tried to watch TV but, for some reason, my eyes were repeatedly drawn back to the spider. It finally occured to me that I kept looking at it because I was not satisfied with my spider conclusion. I stared at it a while longer until I heard myself gasp "Oh no!"
I leapt from the couch to find a suitable container with which to catch the beasty. I found a very tall plastic soda cup and perched myself on the coffe table which gave me just enough reach. With one deft swipe, I had captured my target. I went to a brightly lit area and peered in to confirm my suspicion. Yep.... a solfugid.
I figured I would see one some day outside or find a carcass in my garage but I never exptected to find one in my house! This one is very small and maybe a month or two old. It's still pretty ugly though. If you don't remember what a solfugid is, check out this old post.
Fortunately, Niki is spending the week in California. I doubt she would be able to sleep after this discovery. Time to call the pest control folks.
