Pac-Man Practice

This month's Guitar World has the 18 page transcription of Through the Fire and Flames by Dragonforce. I encourage both Aaron and James to pick it up and get practicing. I am going to give it a shot when I get home tonight. I looked at it last night and it might be easier then trying to play the song on Hard for Guitar Hero.

Actually this is a very good issue which also includes:

Metallica - The Call of Ktulu
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood
Motorhead - Ace of Spades

Once of the best issues as far as tab goes.

18 page transcription??? Have I ever mentioned how happy I am to be playing the bass?

Sounds like a great issue but there is no way in hell I am even going to look at Through the Fire and Flames. Is there anything along the lines of Mary Had a Little Lamb in the issue? That would be closer to my speed.
BTW, Niki just started a job that will require her to work evenings and Saturdays so I will be practicing a LOT more. Give me six months and I might be able to do the pac-man sound.

Actually that might work out good. The Pac-Man sound requires you to take off your tremolo "whammy" bar. Kind of tough to do in the middle of a solo. Learn the Pac-Man sound and I will be happy.

I have a feeling this is the type of song that will lose something without the second guitar. Even if I can play it correctly it will sound just a bit off, just like The Trooper.

Ok, I will play the pac-man sound and you play the rest. Sounds like a good duet.

Oh good, now we have a partial setlist for our next jam session. By the way, since James bought a guitar does this mean that we are going for the 3 guitar attack a la Maiden?

Ummm... are you expecting James to perform with us via conference call?

Yeah thanks a lot for outing me on my guitar purchase.

I kid, I kid. In case all the details haven't been leaked yet, I got a Telecaster. It ended up costing me more than I had been planning to spend, but I'm happy with it. It sounds good, I love how it looks, and it's comfortable. I picked up a book and DVD for absolute beginners that is helping me learn my way around, and once I get moved (probably next month) I'm going to see if I can afford to get lessons.

As far as the move goes, I'll just out myself. I'm not moving far; it's just across town. I'm scheduled to close on a house on March 14. I'll send new contact info when everything is official and I'm settled.

And as far as the Pac Man sound goes... it sounds intriguing. I've never heard the song before (sorry), can you be more specific about which sound it is? I might have to accelerate my practice schedule if it's good...

Haha, jamming via conference call. Maybe we should set up a videoconference on IM?

Listen to the song at their myspace page (www.myspace.com/dragonforce). It happens at about 4:58 during the most impossible solo over.

Oh.

Ummm... I'll get back to you in about 20 years. Don't wait up for me!

I think it's very helpful that none of our 3 guitarists live in the same state. That should really accelerate our song making ability.

On a side note, I can play the song through the first chorus including the keyboard intro part which is obviously tabbed for guitar. I am debating if it is even necessary or practical for me to try to learn any of the solo.

Necessary?!? Is it necessary for me to drink my own urine? No! But I do it anyway because it's sterile and I like the taste.
