Flying Solo

Today was the first time I actually arrived at the new job on time (6:30!). Unfortunately, nobody was around to see it. The guy who is training me called in sick today. I should be able to handle it by myself but it's going to be a pain in the ass. I'm still waiting to get all my access cards and ID cards that let me into the courthouse, coroner's office, etc. That's not a problem when I'm with the other guy but I'm locked out without him. Now I have to go through all the metal detectors and get people to let me into all the locked areas (almost all of it is locked).
Yesterday was the first time I got to go to one of the outlying areas. We had to go all the way to Mt. Charleston to deliver staples to a youth corrections camp. Mt. Charleston is the highest peak in the mountain range west of Vegas and home to Lee Canyon, the nearest ski resort. There was already snow on the ground in shady areas and it was balls cold. It was very scenic and I enjoyed the trip. It seems silly to put 100 miles on the van to deliver a staple cartridge but that's my job.

Technically 3:30 with a 1hr lunch but I often take a short lunch and leave 3-3:15. Waking up so early is rough but it's nice to have so much of the day left after I leave.
