Another one bites the dust
The (old) New Frontier Hotel and Casino has been voted off the island. It was bought by the Elad Group (owners of The Plaza in NY) and will make way for a $5 Billion resort/casino/condo/retail complex bearing The Plaza name. Completion is not expected until 2011.
I don't really get this trend of building condos into casino complexes. Sure, it's fun to visit casinos but live there? Deal with strip traffic every time you leave the house? Time shares I understand but condos are a mystery to me. It would make for a nice commute if you work there but I'm guessing these condos will not fall within the budget of your average dealer/waitress/house keeper. I know people will buy them. There is probably a waiting list already. I just don't understand why.

Finally!!! I hated the "New" Frontier. When they destroy that casino can they cause some collateral damage to Slots O Fun?

I don't think we will get that lucky. Even if they did, that would still leave the Bycicle Club, IP, Polo Tower, etc. The good news is that all the larger old casinos are disappearing. The bad news is the little ones don't occupy enough land to build a mega-resort on. There is still a big empty plot Sahara/LVB. My prediction for the next demolition is the Riviera. I'm sure that will break your heart Dan.

BTW, I'm not thrilled with the prospect of breathing in all the lovely airborne crap after the implosion. That thing was built in the 40's so I'm sure it is a smorgasbord of carcinogens.

I just ask that they never blow up The Flamingo. Someday I will find that mysterious craps table again!

I'm starting to think that this mythical craps table exists only in your dreams.
