Do they take the short tour bus?
Here is a clip from ABC News about a creationist tour through the Denver Museum of Science & Nature guided by a group calling themselves Biblically Correct Tours. The tour itself is unremarkable and not at all surprising. I read about stuff like this all the time (while crying on the inside) and wouldn't normally post about it here.
The reason I made an exception this time is the fantastic job ABC and reporter Brian Rooney did on reporting the story. I am used to seeing interviews with creationists (or other religious nuts) where they are allowed to make their ridiculous claims and then the reporter moves on without ever confronting the whack job with reality or asking them to back up their statements. This time was different.
At one point, the tour guide lies about dating techniques while completely ignoring a display right next to him that explains how he is wrong. When confronted by Rooney, he respond with "We can't cover everything." In another instance Rooney asks why dinosaur and human fossils are never found in the same geologic layer and the guide says "Ok, there are several problems for the creationists. There's no doubt about that. And one would be that." I do, however, have to admit that ABC did make a mistake when they were talking biblical genealogy. They did not account for any generational overlap in their math. In spite of the goof, they did an excellent job of pointing out the inanity and deception of Biblically Correct Tours.
Right on ABC and especially Brian Rooney! Keep up the good work.
