Who couldn't use another day off?
Go sign the online petition to make St. Patrick's Day a national holiday. It's a lot easier to drink large quantities of Guinness if you don't have to work. It would probably be good to have the day after off also but this is a step in the right direction.

Very interesting. St Patrick's Day, a Republic of Ireland holiday, to be made a "national" holiday for the US. It takes a lot of thought to come up with something like that. Granted a national holiday can consist of a public holiday which can be celebrated across the nation, but I'd like to see the odds in Vegas for this one. However I will fully support a movement to get March 18th off.

St. Patrick was a religious figure so why can't it be observed as a religious holiday like Xmas and Easter? You may quibble about the relative importance of St. Patrick but at least we can prove he existed.
Ultimately, I don't care if it makes sense. I want the day off dammit!

I like this post. I've always thought that St. Patricks Day and Veteran's Day should be national holidays.
