You Are Number Six....

I am not a number, I am a free man!!!!!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7829267.stm

Patrick McGoohan played number six in the television series The Prisoner. For those of you who have not seen the British show, it is very interesting, in that wierd way British things are interesting. If you ever get a chance to watch an episode I would recommend it, it is a very interesting series.

Let us all set our Ipods to Iron Maiden's - The Prisoner in his honnor today.

Gary Sharma - The last man on earth who doesn't have an ipod.

There is a nomadic goat herder deep in Mongolia who is laughing at you as he chooses his next playlist.

I'm very traditional when it comes to music. I dont like Ipods, although I have thought about getting one just for the sole purpose of having my own radio station in my car. I think creating the playlist would be too time consuming though. I'm more into albums as a whole than singles or hit songs.

Also, I dont want my CDs to become obsolete. I still get excited when I go to store and buy a new cd.

• What the hell do you mean by traditional?
• You can take your entire music collection everywhere you go.
• Creating playlist takes no time at all and you dont have to use them. I dont.
• There is nothing to prevent you from listening to an entire album. I do it all the time.
• CDs will become obsolete whether you like it or not. The good news is you don't give up the right to buy them when you get an ipod. You can still go to the store and get excited.
• Try to justify it all you want but you're just stalling. You sacrifice nothing by using an ipod. Buy one. You wont know how you lived without it.

When I say traditional I mean the idea of buying an artist's album instead of downloading the entire album and listening to it on a cd player rather than an Ipod. Like the good ole days. I am nostalgic by nature.

I'm not being sarcastic, but I would like you to tell me how easy it would be to put approx. 4000 songs onto an Ipod. I dont know how to do that.

Even if I had an Ipod I wouldnt listen to it at work and I wouldnt listen to it at home. I would listen to it in my car, but I dont drive that much and when I do half the time I am on the phone lol

But, I am open to the idea of having the Ipod in the car if it's not a tedious process.

You can still be traditional and buy CDs rather than downloading. I don't see the difference between listening to a CD and an ipod... same music.
Steps for adding a CD to ipod:
1 - Install iTunes.
2 - Insert CD.
3 - Click "Yes" when dialogue box pops up.
4 - Enjoy.
The amount of time it takes to rip a CD depends on your computer but it shouldnt take more than 10 minutes. It will take a while to rip all your CDs but it is the kind of thing you can do while watching a Dodger games with minimal intervention.

Gary, none of your arguments work against the ipod. Just buy one. I went from carrying a hugh folder of hundreds of cd's to carrying it all in the palm of my hand. I very rarely download anything from itunes, I still buy all my cd's from a store.
I burned about 4500 songs to my ipod when I first bought it. I now have close to 7000. It takes some time but very little effort. Once you get one you won't know how you lived without one.

Alright, the 2 of you have convinced me to at least look into the possibility of getting one.

I am with Gary on the one traditional argument for CD's... you get to have the disc physically in your hands, along with the album artwork and liner notes. Although, as soon as I get home, I pop the CD in and rip it into iTunes.

Albums are often cheaper when bought on iTunes, but I don't like not having the actual CD with liner notes and everything. I usually burn them onto a blank CD-R, but there's just something that's less than right about having a plain CD with a hand-written title on it.

For single songs though, iTunes is the way to go.

I'm glad you came to your senses Gary. Make sure you don't get a 16GB or smaller model. 4000 average songs = 16GB so you will need something bigger.

"you will need something bigger."
That's what she said.

I prefer the Press Your Luck version. "You will need to get something with at least an additional spin."

That phrase can be used in many situations.
