Who watches the Watchmen?

We did! As a fan of the graphic novel, I thought the movie was amazing. Niki and our friends who aren't familiar with the source material thought it was good but not overwhelmingly so. Everybody agreed that the soundtrack kicked ass.
It is easily the most faithful adaptation from print to film ever. There were several small subplots and back stories that were left out but the vast majority of the story was included. It was already 2:45 so a few omissions is definitely forgivable. There was also a slight change to the ending but I think it was necessary.
Judging by complaints I heard, I think it is necessary to understand the purpose of the story to truly appreciate it. This is not meant to be an action film (graphic novel). There is action (which was done very well) but that's not the point. Watchmen is all about reconstructing the world with the presupposition that super heroes really exist. Instead of creating a caricature of a super hero, it tries to explore the ways life would be different in this alternate reality. How would a being with god-like powers have a normal relationship? Would law enforcement agencies welcome their help? How would modern history be different?
I think just about anybody who liked the graphic novel would love the movie. I can't really speak for anybody else because I can't unread it.
