Aerosmith/Motley Crue Concert
Niki and I (along with Pete and Lisa)saw Aerosmith and Motley Crue Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. I was surprised to see Tommy Lee had rejoined the band for the tour. We showed up pretty late because none of us had any interest in seeing Motley Crew but caught the last couple songs of their set. They actually sounded a lot better than we had expected (based on some stuff we saw on TV).
Aerosmith put on a nice but short performance. They played for 1:10 plus a one song encore. They played a modified version of Back In the Saddle twice because they were filming a NASCAR commercial. I suppose that's ok if you're a really big fan of the song but I felt kinda used. Tom Hamilton is not on the tour due to some health problems.
For those who haven't seen a concert at the Grand Garden Arena, I would suggest you pick another venue if at all possible. The acoustics are pretty poor, it's easy to be very far from the stage, and the entrances/exits are poorly designed so it takes forever to get out. It also takes forever to get out of the parking garage after concerts a al Universal Amphitheater.

I don't understand why you would want to miss Motley Crue if you were seeing them open for Aerosmith. I know that Motley isn't as good as most of the other nostaligic acts out there, mostly because of Vince's voice not being what it used to be, but still. Half of what you spent on your ticket went towards seeing them.
Whenever you see a double headliner, both bands are going to get around 1:10 or 1:15. That's kind of an industry standard. The Scorpions have perfected it over the last 10 years.
I have never seen a show at MGM, but I have always wanted to see a show in Vegas. I saw a Kings pre-season game at MGM with Dan and Emily a few years ago. I don't remember how the view was because the ticket was only $5 haha
I think the 2 worst venue parking lots are Verizon and The Forum. I've never had a problem getting out of Universal. That's one of my favorite venues to go to.

I never have liked Motley Crue. The reason we went is because Aerosmith is Niki's favorite band. Weapon of Choice could have opened for all I cared.
Don't get me wrong, I love Universal. It is a great venue with outstanding acoustics and seating arrangements. However, it does take a while to get out of the garage sometimes.

I am going to have to disagree with your review of the MGM Garden Arena. We saw Queen there and I thought it was an outstanding place to see a show. No complaints with the sound or the seating. Could be that Queen just sounds good no matter where they play. I would definitely make another trip to see a show there, but for hockey it's less then remarkable. However I agree with trying to get out of that place. It's just a wall of people trying to get out of 1 exit into a crowded casino. Just doesn't work.

Maybe Aerosmith just had crappy equipment. We were pretty far from the stage though. There's a reason they were renting out binoculars!

But Dan, it's worth it if you see Rikki Rachtman! That was so metal!

ok I have to say this....Goddammit Gary! How on Earth do you remember set lists????? I am still trying to remember....it is driving me damn crazy. Do you carry a little pad of paper and a golf pencil? I loved the show. Didn't care about the Crue, but heard about 3-4 songs while we went to the bathroom and bought t-shirts. I didn't want to wait until after the show because of what we went through after Queensryche. It's a good thing we did, they were already running out of things.
Ok...now to the band...joe perry is a freaking god! The dude is in his 50's and still doing the whole bendy lead guitarist thing. joey kramer is awsome. brad whitford looks like an old biker dude now and still rocks the house. And Steven Tyler, what can I say GENIUS! Tom Hamilton is still recovering from cancer so he wasn't there, but the guy who filled in for him was great. Can't remember his name, but he had a solo and it was awsome.
And Dan, yeah, Queen would sound good anywhere. The only thing that would be better is if Freddy Mercury was still alive. He would still kick serious ass.

I think Freddy should come back from the dead for the ultimate reunion tour. Talk about a genius!

hahah I have never written down a setlist. That's kind of lame. There are some people who do it, but I have found that most do so because they are going to post a formal review of the show. I just know the songs. I don't know what else to say. I have a very good long term memory too. Not trying to brag, just seeing if I can answer your question.

That's what I told her. It's actually kind of freakish.
