Why I don't use a caddy

A South Korean man wound up in court after injuring his caddy with an errant shot. I am totally capable of that. I am more likely to hit a house than the green when I tee off. I don't need the liability.

Wow

It sounds like a joke but it's not. Guitar Praise is just like Guitar Hero only without all the good music. Instead, you get to play Christian music. Stryper anyone? Oh, sorry... it's so bad it doesn't even have Stryper. To make matters even worse, at $100 it costs more than any of the secular guitar sims. I highly recommend reading the reviews.
If you're not disgusted enough yet, let me also mention Dance Praise 2. I didn't know there was a Dance Praise 1 but I'm sure the sequel is even better.

Worst Best Man Ever!

I could totally see Shultzy doing this. Then again... who the hell would offer him that position?

Religulous

Niki and I finally got around to seeing Religulous this weekend. It did an excellent job of highlighting some of the faults of religion like the utter abandonment of reason and the certitude of the pious. It also happened to be hilarious. While the main purpose may be to spread doubt in the casually religious, it was also a call to arms for closet atheists/agnostics to "come out" and speak up. Maher makes an excellent point that non-believers, according to the latest polls, make up 16% of Americans (more than Blacks, Jews, Mormons, or Muslims) yet have very little lobbying power or vocal political presence.
Religulous is an excellent movie for anybody who is disenchanted with religion and/or a fan of Bill Maher.

Back from Vail

We spent last week at our timeshare in Vail, CO with Niki's parents, Lisa, and Lisa's long time boyfriend Pete. Don't ask about why we would go to Vail in early October... it's a long story.
The weather was very mild and I was able to wear shorts and a t-shirt most of the time. There was no snow on the ground yet and none fell while we were there. We did get plenty of snow on the way back through Utah. It was falling so thick at times that I could barely see the lines in the road immediately in front of the car.
We made a couple excursions outside of Vail during the week since we had plenty of time to kill. First, we went to Denver to tour the U.S. Mint. The tour wasn't all that great but it gave me the opportunity to add to my small Proof Set collection. We also visited the home of Pete's father Gary on the rural outskirts of Denver. He has an enormous three story home with three fireplaces and heated floors on three acres of rolling grassland. I'd tell you what he paid for it but that information is likely to make any homeowner in CA or Vegas vomit. We stopped for lunch at a historic restaurant in Denver called The Buckhorn Exchange. You may have seen it featured on No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain. The food was amazing and the prices quite reasonable. I highly recommend it if you are ever passing through Denver.
Our other trip was to Breckenridge, home of Breckenridge Brewery. We tried to get a tour of the brewery but the Brewmaster was out so we just had some beer. I tried the Oatmeal Stout first because stouts are my favorite. Unfortunately, it tasted like they mixed black coffee with Corona. Then I tried Avalanche (American Ale style) which Pete and Lisa recommended. It was pretty good so I had a few more pints. For the record, they have some kick ass Irish Nachos too.
Aside from our side trips and a few walks along Gore Creek (which borders the timeshare and cuts through Vail Valley) we mostly just watched Prison Break DVDs and enjoyed the jacuzzi. Much relaxation was achieved and good times were had by all.

R.I.P. TV

Our 51" TV has kicked the bucket. I had been watching Kingpin and stepped away for minute. When I came back, Niki asked me if Kingpin was being broadcast in 3D. The red CRT jumped way out of position and won't budge.
I have been told that projection TVs have a pretty short life span in the desert so this doesn't come as a huge surprise. Unfortunately, I had hoped to be in a better financial position when it happened. I plan to buy an LCD (Sharp or Samsung) of approximately the same size in the future but it will be a while. It will take at least a few months to pay off the Circuit City or Best Buy cards so we can get 0% interest.
In the mean time, I guess we will just have to move the 27" LCD out of the bedroom and scoot the couch closer.
